Was Executive Director of the American Literary Translators Association from 2017-2024.

Is Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Tucson Bird Alliance.

Served as a judge for the 2025 Neustadt International Prize for Literature.

A judge for the 2019 National Book Award for Translated Literature. 

And a judge for the 2025 PEN Presents x International Booker Prize, the 2020 & 2021 PEN/Heim Translation Grants, the 2018 NEA Literary Translation Fellowships, the 2017 PEN Center USA Translation Award, and the 2016 PEN America Translation Prize.

Is a member of the translators' collective Cedilla & Co.

For Words Without Borders, guest edited a special feature of Arabic Young Adult Literature (April 2020), and co-edited a feature of Arabic Literature Five Years on from the 'Arab Spring' (January 2016). ​
